E-MU samplers/modules had some interesting formant and EQ filters, while the samples have "thickness" and pitch transposition that I like for percussive sounds.

I also thought that Roland's guitars (nylon, steel) were better, as were some fuzz guitars that I was able to coax with the COSM amps. The Korg's excelled at thick pad or string beds, while the Roland's squelchy filters and thin sounding samples cut through and fleshed a mix out. To be serious, i do understand that romplers are very practical instruments and even offer genuine synthesis features that make them creative tools in their own right and so on.
